Without a doubt the largest quartet in he world, the FZQ has passed it's many incarnations through the years more as a musical sideshow, or a great excuse to get drunk and have fun, rather than an actual band.

Founded in 1998 by Sef Foyn, it consisted largely by members of his former band Lost Luggage, as a reason to keep on drinking at the end of the week and to utilize his newly inherited piano to achieve said drink.

Originally a quartet, they stayed that way until 2/3'ds of the first night when they gained other notorious members and drunkards from the local pub where they were playing.

Over the years, the FZQ has toured Cuba, Gambia, Jamaica, Uganda, Zanzibar, England, Germany and of course Norway.

But their main venture has always, and always will be, the Sunday and the weekly concert.
Usually performed at Blå in Oslo, it has seen the growth an demise of several venues, most notably Grønlandshagen whivh was closed down by police in 2007 after running illegaly for around 2 years.

Known for the less than respectful attitude to the music they play, and sometimes bizarre stage antics, the FZQ has become infamous even as far away as the foreign exchange student programme in france, and in the diplomatic community of Zanzibar.

Always free, always fun, always Sunday.

about

What you are about to hear is the result of the seemingly strange idea by bass player and tour coordinator Johannes Sæboe to put one of the least structured jazz bands in Norwegian history in one of the finest recording locations in Europe, bringing an extremely low-key band into the high-end locations of Studio 2, Abbey Road.

Originally intended as a leisurely trip with some recorded rehersal, the stated goal was to record 10 tracks within a 3 day period, for a return toNorway for mixing and mastering......

For reasons somewhat unclear, the quartet got so inspired that by the first day, they had recorded no less than 12tracks, bringing a quick revision to the original plans, and resulting in no less than 37 recorded songs by the end of the studio session.

Since the same revision concluded that the FZQ had never sounded this good, and probably never will again, the band realized the need to mix and master at the Abbey Road studios, to bring out every faulty note to its highest potential.
